Gender, Diversity and Inclusion in CGIAR's Workplaces

STAFF GUIDE

April 2020

Dear Colleagues

Welcome to this second GDI Guide on how we can all better manage the disruption and challenges that have arisen from the COVID-19 pandemic, both at home and work. While the first Guide was to support team leaders in managing their teams while working remotely, this second Guide is to more broadly share tips and practical advice for all CGIAR colleagues.

COVID-19 is impacting work all across CGIAR. But we are not alone. According to a survey of 800 global HR executives, 88 percent of organizations have responded to the pandemic by encouraging or requiring their employees to work from home.

So how does working from home affect us all and our work at CGIAR? And how can we do it better? The newly formed CGIAR System support function on Gender, Diversity and Inclusion (GDI) in CGIAR’s workplaces has explored some potential answers to these questions.

We are all learning that working from home presents a number of challenges, to both our work and our personal health and wellbeing. Our vision is that CGIAR’s workplaces are enabling and inclusive, and that they embrace diversity in all its dimensions. How can this best be achieved when we are remote working? How do we ensure that we all stay safe and well while making our vital contributions to work?

Working with a group of experts, we have distilled some of these best practices and experiences to share with you here. We especially wish to highlight the availability of confidential counselling.

Please do send any feedback. I’ll be delighted to hear your thoughts.
